The local government of Upi in Province of Maguindanao is now busy preparing for the celebration of the 16th Meguyaya Festival set from December 14- 22, 2018.
Meguyaya is a Teduray term for thanksgiving and merrymaking. The event is the most anticipated and colorful celebration in Upi, one of Maguindanao's progressive towns.
During Meguyaya Festival, the Tedurays, Christians, and Muslim people of Upi come together, celebrate and showcase their cultures.
The street dancing competition which is participated by contingents coming from different schools and barangays of Upi, as well as from neighboring places is the main highlight of Meguyaya Festival.
Other activities of Meguyaya Festival this year includes cultural nights, trade fair and Maisan Na, an activity in which a long stretch of grillers are placed by the roadside where everyone enjoys roasting corns, a symbol of togetherness and feasting.
