Last February 22 the Municipality of Wao in the Province of Lanao Del Sur celebrated its 57th Foundation Anniversary or Araw ng Wao.
The Kariyala Festival was the highlight of the celebration which started on February 8. Kariyala gathered the people of Wao, from different tribes, for a colorful thanksgiving and celebration of peace, prosperity and bountiful harvest.
The highly-anticipated Kariyala Street Dancing Competition this year was participated by six (6) groups coming from different elementary and secondary schools in Wao. The contingents showcased the colorful culture of the people of Wao and the tribe they each represent which include the Maranao, Ilonggo, Cebuano, Kapampangan, Waray and Manobo.
The event was a beautiful showcase of unity in diversity.
