After an exceptional 2015 event, Pyesta Kolon Datal International Folklore Festival is again all set to stage the 2nd CIOFF 2018 International Festival in the City of Koronadal southern part of the island of Mindanao on August 11 to 18, 2018.
The upcoming festival will once again transform the city into a spectacle of goodwill and a haven of merry-making while keeping the CIOFF tradition of promoting friendship and peace alive. A perfect venue for cultural exchanges to safeguard, promote and enhance the country’s intangible cultural heritage specifically through performances showcasing traditional songs and dances in the country.
“I’m delighted and extremely excited to be bringing such an extraordinary roster of international talents and artists to Koronadal for this year’s festival”, Mayor Peter B. Miguel said in a media interview.
In 2015, Pyesta Kolon Datal made a big desirable twist in the history of Koronadal, captured the international spotlight and filled the streets of the city and the rest of its neighboring cities and municipalities.
The City of Koronadal is one with the CIOFF in promoting the preservation of cultural identity and serving the cause peace and non-violence. Further, it is one with the people of Region XII and Mindanao in packaging and promoting the place as a tourist destination.
Hosting the 2nd CIOFF 2018 International Festival, the City of Koronadal will be a representative of peace and friendship that Mindanao offers and what its people continue to work and live for. We will have an inspiring journey and taste of folk art and folk culture through the diffusion of cultural heritage while promoting appreciation of their own cultural identity”, Mayor Miguel said.
Meanwhile, the International Folklore Festivals as the main asset of CIOFF organization aims to safeguard, to promote, and to diffuse intangible Cultural Heritage, mainly through such genres of expressions as music, dance, games, rituals, customs, know-how of handicraft and other arts. The festival brings together folk art performers in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere. Part of their program is to offer the participants as well as the larger part of the population and the spectators, an insight in folk traditions of their country, providing a venue for cultural exchange and a meeting place of culture organized in the spirit of friendship and promoting and serving the cause of peace and non-violence through international cultural cooperation.
The 8-day festival is packed with full shows, pocket performances and lecture-demos in the city of Koronadal, the neighboring municipalities in South Cotabato and the City of Tacurong. Beyond the regular norms of street dancing, spectators will get to witness a tremendous display of folkloric presentations in a colorful celebration of. During the program, each group will present a 3-minute ensemble of traditional styles of expression through songs, music and dances.
Since security is essential for any successful festival, city Mayor Miguel made a pronouncement in a Monday convocation that he will not let up in its efforts to maintain and improve the peace and order situation of the city. “We will maximize the use of our police forces to prevent terrorism from spinning out of control”, Mayor Miguel said.
Further, Mayor Miguel urged Koronadaleños to abide by the curfew hours but encouraged continuance of business. “It is business as usual in the city, but always bring your identification card when going out,” the Mayor said in a radio pronouncement.
The organizer foresee nine (9) countries of at least 25 participants from around the world, Three (3) nationally-acclaimed performing dance companies from other regions in the Philippines and the Koronadal’s very own Hinugyaw Cultural Dance Troupe as participants of the event.

Miguel upon the recommendation of the CIOFF Council during the 44th World Congress in October 2014 which paved the way to the staging of a festival with an international scope.
