Aside from the Pakaradjaan Basilan which celebrates the founding anniversary of Basilan, another interesting annual event in the province is the Lami-Lamihan Festival of the City of Lamitan.
Lami-Lamihan is a Yakan term for merrymaking. The festival showcases their rich culture and celebrates peace and harmony among the Yakans, Tausugs, Muslims and Christians. It also gives tribute to the founder of Basilan province, Pedro Javier Cuevas, also known as Datu Kalun.
This year, Lami-Lamihan Festival is scheduled from June 22-29.
An agri-tourism fair, a cultural and musical show, live band concerts, and trade activities showcasing products of Lamitan City are among the many activities lined up for the celebration.
The week-long Lami-Lamihan Festival will also feature a street dancing contest, the Miss Lamitan pageant, a town fair and a motocross exhibition. SEE the schedule of activities below.
