Cotabato Province's Kalivungan Festival has officially kicked off this morning August 26 at the Provincial Capitol in Amas, Kidapawan City.
The week-long celebration started off with the Musical Street Parade and the Drum and Lyre Competition at the Capitol Grounds participated by different schools in Cotabato Province and followed by a Thanksgiving Mass and the Kalivungan Opening Program held at the Pavilion.
In her speech, acting Cotabato Province Governor Shirlyn Macasarte- Villanueva invited everyone to celebrate and enjoy Kalivungan Festival and urged Cotabateños to set aside differences and unite as one Cotabato for the success of this year's celebrations.
Kalivungan, which means a gathering of people, showcases North Cotabato's, abundance, diverse cultures, traditions and way of life. The festival will end on the province's 105th Foundation Day on September 1.
Among the activities to watch out in this year's Kalivungan Festival includes Kavurunan (Aug. 26-27); Himig, Sayaw at Kultura (Aug. 29); Kapagana and the Open Mt. Bike Challenge (August 31), and the Cultural Showdown (parade and showdown) on September 1.
