The Municipality of Mangudadatu in Province of Maguindanao successfully celebrated its 4th Taruk Festival and 13th Founding Anniversary on January 27-29.
Taruk is the local name for Big Carp which is very abundant in Lake Buluan. And fishing at the lake is the primary source of income for the people of Mangudadatu. The Taruk Festival is a thanksgiving celebration and a recognition to the fisher folks in the municipality.
Highlight of the celebration was the colorful Ginakit Fluvial Parade at Lake Buluan which was participated by different sectors from the eight barangays of Mangudadatu town. Municipal officials and employees headed by Mayor Bai Elizabeth M. Tayuan and Vice Mayor Prince Mosafeer M. Dilangalen also joined the fluvial parade onboard a well-adorned Ginakit with former Mayor Freddie Mangudadatu and Board Member King Jazzer Mangudadatu of the 2nd District of Maguindanao and other guests.
We were there during the event and we truly enjoyed seeing everyone enjoying the occasion. There were servings of dulang prepared for the event, playing of traditional musical instruments such as the kulintang, and dancing.
The Ginakit was followed by a civic parade and the anniversary program held at Mangudadatu Municipal Gymnasium with Congressman Esmael "Toto" Mangudadatu of the 2nd District of Maguindanao as the guest speaker.
