The Province of Sultan Kudarat recently stepped into the spotlight as it proudly hosted the highly anticipated Miss Universe Philippines 2024 National Costume Competition and a series of other activities, showcasing the province's beauty, warmth, and safety.
On Saturday, April 27, 2024, the streets of Sultan Kudarat burst with excitement as beautifully designed floats paraded the 53 candidates of Miss Universe Philippines 2024 from the City of Tacurong to Isulan, the capital town of Sultan Kudarat. Spectators lined the national highway route, exuding enthusiasm and support for the prestigious event.
In the evening, the spotlight shifted to the runway challenge and the Inaul Fashion Show held at a beautifully designed stage in front of the Provincial Capitol. The Inaul, the traditional woven cloth of the Maguindanaon, took center stage, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Sunday evening, April 28, 2024, witnessed the crowning jewel of the event—the highly anticipated National Costume Competition. Adorned in vibrant fabrics and materials, each contestant showcased iconic representations of biodiversity symbolizing their respective regions. The event not only celebrated the diversity of the Philippines but also highlighted the creativity and craftsmanship of Filipino designers.
"It is a dream to be in the mainstream; it feels like heaven na andito na sila," remarked Sultan Kudarat Governor Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu. "It is a great chance and opportunity for Sultan Kudarat to showcase the gift of hospitality we have. In terms of tourism, we can offer not only tourist attractions but also the warmth and hospitality of Sultan Kudarat."
The event also saw the selection of three candidates as the best in national costume, with each receiving P100,000. Miss Universe Southern California, Jet Hammond, paid homage to the Philippines’ Tubbataha Reef with her breathtaking national costume inspired by the sea. Miss Universe Iloilo, Alexie Brooks, showcased an elegant representation of the orb-weaver spider known as 'Ugto-ugto' in Iloilo. Meanwhile, Miss Universe Tacloban, Tamara Ocier, impressed with her national costume inspired by the 'Halo' and featuring the Tacloban Monitor Lizard.
Throughout their visit to Sultan Kudarat, the Miss Universe Philippines candidates immersed themselves in Sultan Kudarat's charm, exploring various tourist destinations, joining festivities with locals, and participating in community outreach activities. Their experience underscored the region's safety and capacity to host prestigious events.
